A: The 3PE system combines the best protective traits of different polymers:
Layer 1 (Inner): Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) coating (> 100μm). It bonds directly to the blasted steel pipe surface, providing exceptional anti-corrosion protection and resistance to cathodic disbondment.
Layer 2 (Middle): Copolymer Adhesive layer (> 170μm). This layer acts as a structural bridge, chemically cross-linking the inner FBE layer with the outer polyethylene jacket.
Layer 3 (Outer): High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) layer (> 2.5mm). It acts as a hard outer armor, offering superior mechanical protection against abrasions, rocks during backfilling, and soil stresses.
A: The main difference lies in their mechanical yield limits. X42 has a higher minimum yield strength (290 MPa) compared to Grade B (245 MPa). This means that under the same pipeline operating pressure, an X42 pipe can withstand higher interior pressure spikes or allow a more efficient wall design configuration, saving overall project steel tonnage.
A: The ends of our 3PE-coated line pipes feature a 100mm to 150mm bare steel cutback with a standard bevel. This is intentional and necessary for field butt-welding. The bare steel allows pipeline crews to weld the sections together without melting or contaminating the protective coating. After the field joint is welded, the bare section is sealed on-site using specialized 3PE heat-shrinkable sleeves to restore continuous protection.
