A: CML provides active chemical protection. The hydration of cement creates calcium hydroxide, raising the pH level at the steel interface to around 12.5. At this high pH, a stable passive iron oxide film forms on the steel surface, preventing oxygen and moisture from inducing rust, even if the lining becomes wet.
A: Yes, minor hairline shrinkage cracks are a normal physical characteristic of cement curing and handling. They do not compromise the pipe. Once the pipeline is filled with water, the cement undergoes “autogenous healing.” The water causes the cement to expand slightly, and dissolved calcium carbonate precipitates within the cracks, permanently sealing them.
A: In accordance with the AWWA C205 standard, the standard lining thickness for a 48-inch (DN1200) steel pipe is typically 3/8 inch (9.5mm) or 1/2 inch (12.7mm). We can adjust this thickness if your project specifications call for special flow or pressure dynamics.
A: While concrete and plastic pipes are corrosion-free, they lack the tensile strength, flexibility, and pressure containment of steel.
