A: ASTM A53 defines two carbon steel grades: Grade A and Grade B. Grade B possesses a significantly higher yield strength (minimum 35,000 psi / 240 MPa) and tensile strength (minimum 60,000 psi / 415 MPa) than Grade A, making it the preferred choice for pressurized steam, air, and high-load industrial piping.
A: In strict compliance with ASTM A53, our galvanized pipes feature a minimum average zinc coating weight of 1.8 oz/sq ft (550 g/m²), which is approximately 75 to 80 microns of dry zinc thickness. This thick, durable layer offers outstanding sacrificial protection in damp and underground soils.
A: All our ASTM A53 galvanized pipes are threaded to standard NPT (National Pipe Thread) specifications in accordance with ANSI B1.20.1. One end is pre-assembled with a standard heavy-duty, hot-dipped galvanized coupling, and both ends are fitted with plastic thread protectors to prevent damage during transit.
A: Threading cuts into the metal wall, reducing the remaining steel thickness under the thread root. A lighter schedule (like Sch 10) is too thin for secure NPT threading. Schedule 40 (6.02mm WT for a 4-inch pipe) provides the essential steel mass required to support deep NPT threads while maintaining a robust, pressure-tight pipe body.
