A: X70 is a high-strength steel grade. For massive 48-inch pipelines, achieving the required burst-pressure rating with lower-grade steel would require extremely thick walls. X70 allows engineers to keep the wall thickness manageable, which saves thousands of tons of steel, reduces transportation weight, and significantly speeds up field welding times.
A: JCOE refers to the progressive mechanical forming steps: J-shape, C-shape, O-shape, and Expansion. It is the most advanced and precise method for manufacturing large-diameter, heavy-wall pipes. The final mechanical expansion step (E) guarantees exceptional diameter tolerance and roundness, which is crucial for aligning the pipes during field welding.
A: Given their immense size and weight, 48-inch pipes require specialized logistics. We use nylon slings, vacuum lifters, or padded hooks for loading. During transport, the pipes are secured on custom saddles with non-abrasive separators to prevent any localized crushing or friction damage to the PE jacket.
A: Yes. To accommodate the immense heat generated by welding heavy-wall X70 pipes, we provide an extended bare steel “cutback” at the pipe ends (typically up to 150mm). This safety margin ensures the welding heat dissipates through the steel before it can melt or compromise the factory-applied 3PE coating. The weld joint is later protected with a heavy-duty field joint shrink sleeve.
