A: Yes, while cross-country mainlines use large diameters, a 4-inch pipe is the standard and most efficient size for localized transfer lines, such as connecting storage tanks in a fuel depot, refinery piping, and municipal heating oil distribution.
A: The pipes are supplied with a designated “cutback” area—a 50mm to 150mm bare steel section at the ends. This allows pipeline crews to perform standard butt welding on-site without melting the protective PE jacket. Once the weld passes inspection, the joint is sealed using a field-applied heat shrinkable sleeve.
